Demia Israel

Demia Davis Israel, age 99, formerly of Israel Road, passed away Monday, November 16, 2009 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Hezikiah and Leona Shope Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman Dennis Israel who died in 1987; two brothers Brantley M. and Ki Foy Davis; an infant sister, Evelyn Davis; and a grandson, Mark Israel. She was a former employee of American Enka, Schulman's Department Store, John Graham Store, Robertson Memorial YMCA; but selling Avon products was her true love. Demia enjoyed traveling and was an avid Pisgah High School football fan. She was a lifelong member of Morning Star United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She is survived by a daughter, Lila Jo Nichols and her husband, Charles, of Rock Hill, SC; two sons, Marshal Ray "Pete" Israel and his wife, Marie, and Dennis Carroll Israel and his wife, Susan, all of Canton; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Morning Star United Methodist Church with the Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church, 2535 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716 or to one's favorite charity.
