DENNIS "SONNY" CASEY "LOVING FATHER AND FRIEND TO ALL" Waynesville, Dennis Marion Casey, Sr., age 80, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011 at MedWest Haywood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the youngest child of the late Allen D. Casey, Sr. and Leona McDonnell Casey McDowell. He was also preceded in death by all his siblings—three brothers and three sisters. Mr. Casey attended Reynolds High School. He was a former employee of Taylor Motor Company and later retired from Dayco Corporation in 1990 as a shipping and receiving specialist after 25 years of service. A faithful servant of God, he also attended Jones Temple AME Zion Church, which his ancestors helped to establish. He was known to many as Dennis and to others as "Sonny" and was a car collector and enthusiast. He also was a singer and participated in several vocal groups, including his church choir and the community group, "Men On A Mission." Mr. Casey was a past master and present member of Dutch Cove Masonic Lodge 718, active member of the Haywood Chapter of the AARP, as well as several other community organizations throughout his life. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Juanita Lenoir Casey; one son, Dennis M. Casey, Jr. and his wife, Judith, of Wilson, North Carolina; two daughters, Lavonne Casey, of Atlanta, Georgia and Felecia Casey-Hicks and her husband, Spencer, of Durham, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Dennis V., Jeannie, Lakeisha, Ben, and Philip; five great grandchildren, Lorenzo, Tiyana, Tanasha, Kiyauna, and Shayla; and a host of extended family and special friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend William E. Staley and Reverend Walter Bryson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the funeral home.
