Dennis Smith

Dennis Ray Smith Lexington, SC, Dennis Ray Smith, age 55, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at his residence. Dennis was born in Haywood County, raised in the Candler area of Buncombe County, NC and resided the majority of his life in Lexington, SC. He was the son of the late Lawrence Ray Smith and Geraldine Gentry Salgado. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kyle Brandon Smith and a sister, Patricia Jordan. Dennis was a genius with computers, having been employed by Retail Systems Inc. as an Electronic Engineer and also NCR Corporation in Columbia, SC, for 25 years. Dennis will be remembered for having a dedicated work ethic working hard to provide for his family, always placing others first and willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a special love for the mountains of WNC and enjoyed being outdoors and nature especially fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Betty Alice Cox Smith; two daughters, Brooke Smith of Lexington, SC and Erica Smith Schwenker and her husband, Daniel, of Lexington, SC; a step-daughter, Jamie Freeman of Lexington, SC; two sisters, Judy Bern and her husband, Bill, of Kirkland, WA, Sandy Tidwell and her friend, Troy French, of Candler; Karen Smith mother of his children of Lexington, SC; an aunt, Ruby Davis of Candler; two step-grandchildren, Isaiah and Riley Freeman and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
