Dewey Henson

Dewey Rush Henson, age 86, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Alton and Dorothy Heatherly Henson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha B. Henson, who died in 2007; one sister, Sarah Rhodes; and three brothers, Grover, Shay, and Base Henson. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and he retired from Dayco in 1984. Dewey was a member of Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church, Sonoma Masonic Lodge #472 AM & FM and the Cruso Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years. He enjoyed gardening and hunting deer and he also helped to acquire the land for New Cruso Cemetery. He is survived by four sons, Tony Henson and his wife, Carolyn, of Canton, Terry Henson and his wife, Nancy, of Cruso, Stanley Henson of Swannanoa, and Tim Henson and his wife, Renee, of Cruso; one daughter, Peggy Reece and her husband, Ronnie, of Lake Logan; ten grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Jake Cagle and the Reverend Anthony Greene officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Chad, Blake, Rodney, Travis, Shay, Ricky, and Marty Henson, and Jeff Reece. At other times, the family will be at Dewey's residence.
