Richard Wayne "Dick" Hannah, age 82, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014, at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William Jessie and Louise Medford Hannah. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service after serving 38 years as Postmaster and was a member of the North Carolina Postmasters Association. Dick was a lifelong member of Clyde First Baptist Church where he served on the grounds and counting committees. He joined the Clyde Lions Club in 1963 and served as treasurer for 50 years. Over the years, he donated 17 ½ gallons of blood and platelets to the American Red Cross. Dick enjoyed serving on the election board and was a NASCAR fan. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille Buchanan Hannah; a daughter, Denise Cox and her husband, Hal, of Winston-Salem; a brother, Charles Hannah and his wife, Frances, of Clyde; a grandson, Casey Cox of Greenville, South Carolina, several cherished nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Cleo Leatherwood and her husband, Paul, and a brother-in-law, Bruce Buchanan and his wife, Elaine and his mother-in-law, Clara Smith Buchanan. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James Parham officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. The Clyde Lions Club members will serve as honorary pallbearers.
