Frank Donald "Don" Brown, age 79, of High Street passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2011. A native of Buncombe County, he had resided most of his life in Haywood County and was the son of the late Frank McKinley and Oma Woody Brown. He was a graduate of Emma High School and was employed with Southern Railway as a clerk for 45 years. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict. Don was an active member of Plains United Methodist Church serving on numerous committees and was the head usher. He worked with Haywood Christian Ministries and enjoyed working out at HRMC Fitness Center. He was an avid golfer and fly fisherman and fan of Pisgah High School athletics. He loved his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kate Powell Brown; three sons, Vincent Brown and his wife, Brandy, of Seattle, WA, Eric Brown and his wife, Cindy, of Bethel, and Rodney Brown of Villa Rica, GA; four grandsons, McKinley, Trail, Brighton, and Zayden Brown. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011, at Plains United Methodist Church with the Reverend Michael Austin officiating.
