Donald Cordell

Donald Eugene Cordell, 75, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of Cecil and Floy Haney Cordell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Cordell. Donald retired from Champion International in 1985 with 39 years of service. He was a retired National Guard Reservist having served during Desert Storm. Donald was very active in the All Christian Holiness Church, serving as the assistant pastor, soloist, and Sunday school teacher. His love for the Lord would shine through everything he did in life. He was a loving and compassionate man who also enjoyed fly fishing in the beautiful mountains. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Miller Cordell, of 16 years; two sons, Allen and Kelly Cordell; one daughter, Susan Cordell of Greer, SC; two sisters, Nancy Crisp and Rosemary Smith both of Stanley; and three grandchildren, Caleb, Cristy, and Wesley Cordell. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday May 2, 2011 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Reverend Donnie Huffman officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of Wanda Teague, 94 Acorn Drive, Canton, NC 28716. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements.
