Donald Janes, Sr.

Clyde, Donald Edward Janes, Sr., age 77, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Homestead. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John Lowie and Maralee Whidden Janes and was also preceded in death by one brother, Johnnie Janes. He was a US Air Force veteran and proudly served from 1955 to 1959. Donald was an employee of Western Union for 30 years and finished his career with Sprint Communications. An avid outdoorsman, Donald was a fishing, bird, dog and horse enthusiast. He also enjoyed working on home improvement projects and playing his guitar. Donald was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Donald is survived by his wife of 53 years, Courtenay Fry Janes, formerly of Orange, Virginia; two sons, Donald Edward Janes, Jr. of Janesville, Wisconsin and Vance Geoffrey Janes and wife, Laurie, of Bonaire, Georgia; five sisters, Lydia Burton and husband, Wayne, Nancy Coble, Anita Wilborn and husband, Charlie, Stella Burrell and husband, Chuck, and Janie James and husband, Robert; two brothers, Robert and Wilbur Janes; four grandchildren, Allie, Justin, Haley and Geoffrey Janes; and many beloved nieces and nephews A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Waynesville, North Carolina with the Reverend Thomas Tout officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.
