Donald Leatherwood

Canton, Donald Ray Leatherwood, age 83, passed away on May 11, 2015 at the Brian Center. A native of Haywood County and former resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Sherrill Ray and Edna McElroy Leatherwood. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lee Parker Leatherwood and second wife, Barbara Roberts Leatherwood; sons, Paul Allen Leatherwood and Donovan Glenn Leatherwood; and a brother, Jerry Robert Leatherwood. He was a US Navy veteran, serving during World War II. Donald graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and owned and operated Russwood Drugs in Waynesville for many years. Surviving are sons, Steve Leatherwood of Canton and Jon David Leatherwood of Asheville; sister, Rose Marie Leatherwood Hipps, of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Kaylee and Coty Leatherwood. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
