Clyde, Donald "Don" Leavenworth, age 71, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at his residence.
He was born in Bradford County, PA and had resided in Haywood County since 1977. He was the son of the late Albert and Charlotte Newberry Leavenworth.
He was the editor of the Canton Enterprise for ten years. He later retired from the Waynesville Bureau of the Asheville-Citizen Times in 1996. He had served as chairman of the Museum Board in Canton for several years. He was a member of Canton Presbyterian Church and was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, Dorothee Wells Leavenworth, he is survived by a daughter, Janet Arrington of Clyde; two grandchildren, Heather Nicole Arrington and Justin Arrington as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 3rd at Canton Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Beverly Brock and Riley Covin officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Canton Presbyterian Church, PO Box 784, Canton, NC 28716 or to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
