Waynesville, Donald William Swanger, age 59, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at his home. He was the son of the late George and Allie Webb Swanger and was also preceded in death by one brother, Bob Swanger. Don was a U. S. Army Veteran and was a retired Captain in the Waynesville Police Department serving for 25 years. Don was an avid NASCAR Fan; traveling all over to cheer his favorite driver Kyle Busch. He was a hard-working man who loved to hunt and fish. Don will forever be loved and greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Nancy Swanger; one son, Michael Swanger and his wife Beth of Waynesville; one step-daughter, Amber Benhart and her husband Billy of Waynesville; one step-son, Matthew Poteat of Waynesville; one brother, Bill Swanger of Columbia, SC; two grandchildren; Callie and Carson Swanger, a baby on the way Kora Benhart, several nieces and nephews and one very special friend John Holcombe. Don's wishes were for no services to be held. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 157 Paragon Parkway, Suite 300, Clyde, NC 28721. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
