Donna Hord

Donna Kay Hord, 57, beloved by her family, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 1, 2006 in her home on Dix Creek Road in Bethel after a five year battle with cancer. She was one of five daughters of the late Donald A. and Delores King Head. Donna was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and is survived by her husband of 30 years, James Richard Hord, originally from Shelby, NC. Donna was a loyal employee of Oakley Coin Laundry on Fairview Road in Asheville for 18 years. Together, the couple raised four successful children and she is survived by Frank J. Alley, and his wife, Angie of Hendersonville and their daughter, Katie; Delores Ann Ward, and her husband, Danny, of the home, and their children, Robbie, Daniel, Amber, Zachary, and Cody; Sonya Alley Banks, of Asheville and her children, Meghan and Jacob; and Loren Sloan (Boney) Hord II, a math teacher at T.C. Roberson High School and friend, Stephanie Rogers, of Asheville. She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Kathy Williams, of Rocky Mount, NC and her daughter, Danielle; and Donna Morales, and her husband, Mauricio, of Rocky Mount, and their children, Andrew and Stephanie, and mother-in-law, Valda McCurry Hord of Shelby, NC. As one of five daughters, she is survived by four sisters and their families, Sandra Yates of Arkansas, Susie Eplee of Gastonia, Beverly Taylor and Alisha Creasman, both of Asheville. The family would like to thank Mary Ashe and Kathy Odvody and the caring staff of Hospice for the wonderful support and care they provided to Donna. The family will celebrate Donna's life with a visitation time at Wells Funeral Home in Canton from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2006. At other times the family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
