Donna Mcelroy

Waynesville, Donna Kay Russell McElroy, age 53, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of Hilda Sanford Russell and the late Charles Vestal "Bud" Russell and was also preceded in death by her son, Anthony Neal McElroy, who died in 1984. Donna was a born again Christian and her faith was a very important part of her life. She enjoyed doing crafts and vacationing in Pigeon Forge. The holidays were a special time for Donna because she loved cooking and spending time with her family and friends and will especially be remembered for her special potato salad. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 31 years, Neal McElroy; daughter, Jessica Leigh McElroy, of the home; sister, Christy Russell Mehaffey and her husband, Scott; brothers, Johnny Mac Russell and his wife, Charlotte and Chuck Russell and his wife, Nancy, all of Waynesville; and special nieces and nephews, Callie, Kristie, Rhiannon, Eli, Max and Timothy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Liberty Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Reverend Brian Parkins, Reverend Jason Worley and Reverend Jerry Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery and receiving of friends will be from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
