Waynesville, Donna Lea Monteith-Freeman, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
A native of Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late Quinton C. and Mildred M. Monteith. Donna was a 1960 high school graduate from the old Sylva High School. After receiving X-Ray training, she was employed at the old Haywood County Hospital and retired from the present Haywood Regional Medical Center. She worked in many modalities and retired as Director of the Radiology Department. In 1979, Haywood Technical Institute began the medical office assistant program and Donna served as scholarship chairman for this program. She served on the board of REACH until she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
Donna enjoyed traveling. She and a close friend were fortunate to be able to visit China and Peru. She and George enjoyed travelling together and were able to go to England, Belgium, and the Galapagos Islands. Donna enjoyed photography, reading and her cats.
Donna is survived by her husband, George Wells Freeman, MD; stepson George Thomas Freeman, and his wife, Sue, of Florence, South Carolina; and step-granddaughter, Jessica Freeman, of Asheville.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road.

The care of Donna has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
