Doris Brown

Balsam, Mary Doris Brown, age 77, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at The Homestead. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Grady and Ellen Green Beck. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 53 years, Charles Brown who passed away in 2009; and a brother, Carroll Beck. Doris enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, spending time with family, friends and especially her grandsons. She was a faithful member of Balsam Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Souderes and her husband, Mike, of Clyde; two sisters, Barbara Jean Dehil of Waynesville and Annie Beck of Balsam; a brother Arthur Beck of Waynesville; grandson, Chad McCall and his wife, Jennifer and their son, Rucker, of Huntersville, NC; one step-granddaughter, Kim Brancato and her husband, Jason; a step-grandson, David Souderes and his wife, Sarah; two step-great-granddaughters, Abigail and Elizabeth Souderes both of Waynesville and two step-great-grandsons, Jackson and Jacob Brancato Fort Mill, SC. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Balsam Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny Swanger and Reverend David Souderes officiating. Burial will follow at Balsam Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
