Doris Burnette

January 1, 1927 — October 29, 2015

Canton – On October 29, 2015 Doris Hardin Burnette slipped quietly from our lives and entered her eternal home to be with her Lord and the family that she loved completely and unconditionally. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dollie Stamey Hardin. She graduated from Clyde High School, where she excelled in basketball and loved talking about the joy it brought her. She then met and married Harry Burnette, the man that would be her great love for 66 years. They stood side by side broken-hearted when they lost their youngest son, Rodney, in 2006. And when Harry left her side in 2012 to join him in Heaven, Doris lost the light that had always been in her eyes. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Yetta Hardin, Catherine Jolley and Tootsie Ward; and her brothers, Roy and Bobby Hardin. Her family has always been the great loves of her life, and she wanted them to know how much she loved them and how proud she was of each one. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Terry Burnette and his wife, Barbara, of Asheville and Michael Burnette and his wife, Pkay, of Tampa, Florida; the lights of her life, her two grandchildren, Alexis and Sean Burnette of Tampa, Florida; her sister, Tilda Rogers and her husband, H. M., of Leicester; her brother, John Ray Hardin, of Canton; her very special friends, Elizabeth Wyatt, Vickie Queen and Barbara Burnette, all of Bethel, who gave her so much support in the last years of her life; and many special nieces and nephews, who brought joy to her life with each visit and phone call. She was a special lady and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Aryn Ruebel officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long's United Methodist Church, 1097 Coffee Branch Road, Canton, NC 28716.
