Doris Coggins

Balsam, Doris Aiken Coggins went to be with her Lord on May 1, 2014 The daughter of John and Margaret Aiken, she was born on April 22, 1941 in Glenville, NC. She attended the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie, NY and Southwestern Technical Institute. She retired from CJ Harris Hospital. She was a faithful Christian and member of Balsam Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Hayes Coggins, her four children, Donald Coggins and his wife, Susie, of Sylva, Kathy Smith and her husband, Jerry, of Waynesville, Ron Coggins and his wife, Wanda, of Balsam, Tim Coggins and his wife, Vicki, of Augusta, Georgia. She was "Nanny" to 9 grandchildren and their spouses, 8 great-grandchildren and her caregiver, Melissa Thompson. A celebration of Doris' life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Balsam Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Farmer and Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. Burial will be in Balsam Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be D.J. Coggins, Stan Coggins, Tony Coggins, Josh Bryson, Timothy Coggins and Aaron Coggins. A gathering of family and friends will be from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
