Doris Edwards

Doris Gwendolyn Edwards, 86, of Asheville passed away Friday, August 27, 2021. A native of Buncombe County, she was born on March 2, 1935, to the late Roy Jones and Christine Foutz. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Homer Gene Edwards in 2015 and a grandson, Dennis “Richard” Edwards, II.

Mrs. Edwards was an active member of VFW Post 891 and was a former ladies auxiliary State President. She retired from Square D company after 30 years of service.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Richard Edwards; daughter, Brenda Edwards Ball and her husband, Danny; granddaughters, Misty Ball Wyatt and her husband, Steven, Christy Ball Bowens and her husband, Bruce and Karla Edwards; great-grandchildren, Trever, Austin and Emma Bowens and Chloe and Colby Wyatt and several special nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021at Wells Chapel of Faith, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive with Larry Fowler officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. till 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 891 Auxiliary Cancer Fund, 626 New Leicester Hwy., Asheville, NC 28806.

The care of Mrs. Edwards has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
