DORIS FRANKLIN

Hickory-Doris Virginia Byers Franklin, age 79, died on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

A native of Hendersonville, NC she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Elizabeth Julian Byers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oliver W. Franklin who died in 1985; two sisters, Nancy Clark and Arleigh Grahl. She was a resident of Lutheran Nursing Home and a long-time resident of both Hickory and Waynesville. She was a member of Lake Junaluska Seventh Day Adventist Church which she enjoyed attending, as well as making hand-made woven baskets, flowers, cooking, and canning.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley J. Purvis and her husband, John, of New Bern, NC and Stephanie A. Wethington and her husband, Carl, of Hickory, NC; seven grandsons; four granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at Lake Junaluska Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Ralph Hollenbeck and Pastor Rob Castle officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
