Doris Stevens Harris, resident of the WNC Baptist Home, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. She battled Alzheimer's for the past twelve years. A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Earnest and Maggie Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven; her husband of 43 years, J.C. Harris; and a brother, Charles Stevens. Doris lived most of her life in Wendell, North Carolina, where she was an active member of Hephzibah Baptist Church. She hosted Bible study, WMU meetings, and Extension Home Demonstration meetings on numerous occasions. In addition to the chores of being a housewife, she was an integral part of her husband's farming operation in Wendell. She is survived by her son, David E. Harris and his wife, Beverly, of Candler; two grandsons, Justin Harris and his wife, Kayla, of New Bern, NC and Jason Harris of Candler; one brother, Herbert Stevens and his wife, Violet, of Clayton, NC; two sisters, Lola Self and Peggy Aldeberg, both of Raleigh; and special friends, Wilbert and Carolyn Bailey, of Knightdale, NC. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Hephzibah Baptist Church Cemetery in Wendell on Monday, March 26, 2012. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
