Doris Mccracken

Clyde, Doris Wyatt McCracken, age 77, passed away on, Sunday, December 20, 2020 at her home.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John David and Mary Ruth Gunter Wyatt.  Doris was a hairdresser in Haywood County for many years. She co- founded Curl ‘n Chat beauty salon but sold her half of the business after the birth of her children to stay at home with them. She operated a salon in her home for 15 years and returned to work at Curl ‘n Chat as a stylist after her children were grown and worked there until her retirement. In her free time, Doris enjoyed reading, crafting, working in her yard, completing home improvement projects and traveling. Doris was above all a dedicated wife and mother. As her children were growing up, she was very active participant in their lives, volunteering at their schools, directing Bible School and Christmas plays at church and taking her children to their many activities.  She will be remembered as being an avid fan of her son’s sporting events and wonderful hostess to her daughter’s friends over the years.  Doris was a doting grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter.

Doris is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ralph McCracken; daughter, Claudia Norton, and her husband, Rodney of Clyde; son, Greg McCracken, and his wife, Jill, of Ocean Isle Beach; one granddaughter, Mia Norton and other extended family.

Doris’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the following organizations/people who provided support to her: Hospice of Haywood County and her nurse Kristine; First Light Home Care and Care Angels for providing her in-home aides and a very special thank you to Ayla, John and Savannah for their kindness, devotion and care for the past two months.

A private service will be held.

The care of Mrs. McCracken has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
