Waynesville, Doris Opal Miller, age 77, of 374 Pigeon Street, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Autumn Care. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Lynn (Red) Taylor Olvey and Etta Barnes Olvey. She was also preceded in death by a son, Logan Bumgarner and one sister, Elizabeth Olvey. She worked as a seamstress in Sylva for more than 18 years. Doris' heart was her family. She loved and cared for her family and enjoyed relaxing with her husband, Ron, as well as spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ronald Miller; two daughters, Jana Sherrill of Waynesville and Sue Painter of Sylva; one son, Edward Bumgarner of Belmont; seven sisters, Shirley Long (Leroy), Mary Franklin (Jessie) and Brenda Buchanan (Junior), all of Sylva, Nell Holloway (Franklin) of Murphy, Bea Baker (Bobby) of Georgia, Katie Barker of Waynesville, and Alice Mathews, of Clyde; one brother, Jim Olvey (Geraldine) of High Point; seven grandchildren, Shane Bumgarner, Allen Carr, Susan Campbell, Jason Sherrill, and Logan, Tommy, and Jonathan Painter; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services.
