Doris Rathbone

Clyde, Doris Medford Rathbone, age 75, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Billy and Virginia Medford.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Rathbone, who died in 2018.  Doris graduated from Cecil’s Business College and was employed by Andean Rural Healthcare in the administration department.  She was a member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church and was part-time church secretary many years ago.  Doris enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and "porch sitting".  But her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Dawn Jones, and her husband, Johnny and Julie Newland, and her husband, Allen; son, Bryan Rathbone, and his wife, Trisa; a brother, Gerald Medford (Teri), of Simpsonville, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Melanie Batchelor (Trey), Gini Taylor (Andrew), Paige Gilliland (Luke), and Brent Rathbone; seven great-grandchildren, Macey and Thomas Batchelor, Adley, Samuel and Jonathan Taylor, Eli and Stella Gilliland.

A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2022 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Taylor officiating.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

The care of Mrs. Rathbone has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
