Doris Turner

Doris Jackson Turner, age 80, died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at her residence at 16 Royal Ridge. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Alexander L. and Lula Medford Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Tana; two sisters, Ruth Jackson Smathers and Wilda Jackson Leatherwood; and one brother, Jack Jackson. After graduating from Canton High School, Doris helped establish the Champion Credit Union and was employed there for ten years until the birth of her daughter Tana. Later she worked for Canton Savings and Loan and retired from RBC Bank in Canton. After retirement, she and her husband, Bill, enjoyed traveling and especially going to the horse shows in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Doris was a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Bill Turner; two nephews, Ronnie Smathers of Waynesville and Steve Leatherwood of Shelby; and two nieces, Vicki Hendricks of Mocksville and JoAnn Robertson of Greer, SC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. James Mackey and Reverend W.O. "Bill" Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Monday at the funeral home.
