Dorotha Evans

May 14, 1927 — March 14, 2008

Waynesville, Dorotha "Dot" Martin Evans, age 80, passed away peacefully Friday, March 14, 2008 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. She was a native of Macon County and lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Jefferson and Ila Haney Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Paul Evans, former Chief of Police of Waynesville, who passed away April 26, 2003; two sisters, Eula Dalrymple and Blanche Dalrymple; two brothers, George Truett Martin and Frank Martin. Dot is survived by a daughter, Ila Evans Baugham, M.D. and her husband, Leonard Andrew Baugham, Sr. M.D. of N. Wilkesboro; a son Paul Martin Evans of Waynesville; a sister, Josephine Brendle of Shelby; three grandchildren, Leonard Andrew Baugham, Jr., Ila Leigh Baugham and Kimberly Annette Evans and several nieces and nephews. Dot moved to Haywood County as a young girl at the age of 20 where she raised her family. She retired from the Haywood County School System where she was employed as a secretary at Waynesville Township and Waynesville Junior High Schools. She was a devoted member of Waynesville First Baptist Church and served on four pastor search committees and was the first female trustee of the church. She was on the Board of the Waynesville Recreation Center where she was very involved. She loved to work in her flower garden, enjoyed taking walks and was a voracious reader. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 in the Sanctuary of Waynesville First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince and Reverend Dr. Dick Maples officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Cecil Yount, Leonard Andrew Baugham, Jr., Bobby Suttles, Robbie Moore, Steve Moore and Bill Hollingsed. Memorials may be made to Waynesville First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 690, Waynesville, NC 28786.
