Waynesville-Dorothy Baker, age 91, died on Monday, November 5, 2007 at Park Ridge Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Swain County, she was a former resident of Washington, DC, Richmond, VA, Atlanta, GA and Raleigh, NC during her retirement. She was the daughter of the late Luther and Flora Ashe Baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harlan, Claude, and L.H. Baker and one sister, Maude Reed. She retired after 42 years service with the US Postal Service and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sylva. Dorothy resided at Givens Estates for the past seven years loved her family and thought of her nieces and nephews as her own. She is survived by nieces, Dotty Green and her husband, Terry, of Naples, FL and Claudette Conine and her husband, John, of Mountain Home, AR; nephews, Denny Baker and his wife, Connie of Naples, FL, Tom Reed and his wife, Pat, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Charles B. Reed and his wife, Sally, of Waynesville, and Charles H. Baker and his wife, Patty, of Charleston, SC; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Old Field Cemetery in Sylva with Reverend Paul Christy officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
