Waynesville, Dorothy Jean "Granny Dot" Evans Birchfield, 75, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at her residence. Born in Buncombe County, she made her home in Haywood County for the past 61 years. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ella Mae Browning Evans; she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmas Birchfield, who died in 2001; two sisters, Janice Luther and Martha Evans; and two brothers, Bobby and Harry Evans. Dorothy's greatest joy in life was taking care of her family. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Lana Parton (Rod Taylor), of Waynesville; three sons, Allen Birchfield (Sandy), Clyde Birchfield and Glenn Birchfield Sr. (June), all of Waynesville; a sister, Beulah Burleson (Paul) of Orangeburg, South Carolina; a brother, Ronnie Evans (Patty) of Asheville; six grandchildren, Amber, Heath, Brent, Glenn Jr, Levi and Luke; and one great-grandson, Caleb Jones; and special friends, Trisha Blanton, Stephanie Reece and Carolyn Jones. Graveside services will be held at Breedlove Cemetery in Robbinsville at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 with Reverend Allen Blanton officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Heath and Brent Parton, Glenn Jr., Levi and Luke Birchfield and Josh Taylor. Honorary pallbearers for Harry Evans will be Roger Parrott, Danny Hill, Tony Buchanan, Gary Head and Ronald Mathis.
