Dorothy "Dot" Towe

Dorothy "Dot" Towe, a beloved teacher’s assistant and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully in Buncombe County, North Carolina, on February 17, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 9, 1935, in Buncombe County, Dot lived a life marked by simplicity, warmth, and kindness.

Dot dedicated her working years to Vance Elementary School, where she served as a teacher’s assistant. Her commitment to nurturing young minds was evident, and she found joy in being part of their educational journeys. Dot was not just a colleague, but a mentor and friend to many, leaving a lasting impact on the students and staff alike.

A long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, Dot found strength and community through her faith. She was known at Pisgah Manor retirement home for her welcoming spirit, often greeting everyone who entered with a bright smile and a kind word. This warmth made her a treasured presence among fellow residents and staff after becoming a resident herself.

Dot enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including a love for clothing shopping and, more importantly, an adoration for her family. She cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy as they grew. Her family members remember her as a nurturing figure whose love knew no bounds.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Becky McKinney (Leon); her brother, Brian Ogle; her grandchildren, Bill McKinney and Lee McKinney (Ashley); her great-grandchildren, Brennan McKinney (Brittney), Haley McInnis, and Colby McKinney; and her great-great-grandson, Barrett McKinney. She will be profoundly missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander Perry Digges and Betty Ruth McMahan; her husband, William "Bill" Towe; and her brothers, Bobby and Johnny Ogle. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind as they celebrate a life well-lived.

A private family viewing to reflect on the life and legacy of Dot will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Wells Funeral Home in Candler, North Carolina. Interment will be held privately at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.
