Waynesville, Dorothy Virginia "Dot" Francis, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Vane and Ella Mae Vaugh Francis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters. Dorothy graduated Waynesville Township High School in 1951. Her love for reading led her to the Haywood County Library where she began working on the bookmobile, a converted bread truck, delivering books throughout the communities of Haywood County. In 1963, she moved to Asheville, North Carolina to work with Taylor Instruments in Arden, where she worked until she retired in 1988. Not being able to sit at the house, she went to work at Milkco Dairy, an Ingles Supermarket subsidiary, until 2003, when she retired back to Waynesville to be closer to family and friends. She became involved with the Francis Mill Preservation Society and was active in the Francis Cove United Methodist Church. Dorothy's happiest moments were in the company of children, family gatherings and being around those who called her Dee Dee. The love for her grandchildren and grand-nieces created bonds and relationships that the children will always cherish. Dee Dee's Blueberry Salad will be missed at the family gatherings, but most of all the twinkle in her eyes, her warm smile and a tight hug will be greatly missed. Dot is survived by her son, David B. Francis, and his wife, Donna, of Waynesville; granddaughter, Baili-ann Boone Francis; grandson, Tyler Boone LaDuke; niece, Tanna Boone Timbes, and her husband, Tim, of Waynesville; nephew, Sandy Boone, and his wife, Roxanne, of Weaverville; grand nieces, Lori Redding, Abby Spann, Kadee Primus, Jennie West and Natalie Jane Boone. The family wishes to acknowledge Autumn Care Nursing Home and The Homestead for the wonderful care given to Dot. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Chris West officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Francis Mill Preservation Society, 14 Hugh Massie Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
