Dorothy Gibson

Waynesville, Dorothy Lanning Gibson, age 81, died on Monday, March 10, 2008 at Harris Regional Hospital. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John and Dessie Mathis Lanning. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gibson who died in 1989; daughter, Margaret Gibson, four brothers, Hub, Clarence, John Thomas and Richard Lanning and one sister, Hazel Robinson. She was a seamstress and was employed by Kelray Knitting Mill, Oley, PA for 12 years. Mrs. Gibson loved gardening and especially enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. She is survived by three daughters, Doris Asbury, and her husband, James, of Newton, NC, Joyce Young, and her husband, Larry of Balsam, NC, Janice Brown, and her husband, Cecil of Waynesville; three sons, David Gibson, and his wife, Alberta, of Newton, NC and Dale Gibson, and his wife, Renee, of Clyde; Wayne Coley and his wife, Shannon, of Waynesville; four sisters, Louise Parker, of Gastonia, NC, Florence Caldwell, of Waynesville, Virginia Rhodarmer of Waynesville and Ruth Ellis of Gastonia; two brothers, James Lanning, of MD, and Dewey Lanning of Waynesville; 10 grandchildren , Jimmy Gibson, and his wife, Lara, Shane Gibson and his wife, Robin all of Sherrill's Ford, NC and Donna Whitner, and her husband, Bill, of Candler, Sherry Frady, of Clyde, NC, Waynette Coley, of Claremont, NC, Sheila Holden and her husband, Wade of Bethel, Travis Young and his wife, Michelle, Cecil Brown and his wife, Jennifer and Chad Brown and his wife Stacy all of Waynesville and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Log Cabin cemetery with Reverend Mark Atkinson and Reverend Tommy Carlisle officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Joyce Young. Pallbearers will be Jimmy and Shane Gibson, Cecil and Chad Brown, Scott, Derek, and Coty Coley and Jack Reece.
