Canton – Dorothy Ann Stark Hobbs, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Spicewood Cottages in Clyde. Dorothy was born in Marshall, Indiana, on May 27, 1923 to Lewis M. Stark and Dora McIntyre Stark. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. (Hap) Hobbs of Canton, who died in 2012; her eldest son, William D. Hobbs of Naples, Florida and a granddaughter, Melody Hobbs of Sarasota, Florida. Dorothy graduated from Marshall High School in 1941 and attended Business College in Terre Haute, Indiana. Her first job was in Park County, Indiana Clerk's Office making $10.00 a week. She was married to Charles E. (Hap) Hobbs on April 26, 1942. In 1952, they moved with their three sons to Sarasota, Florida, where they resided for 45 years. Dorothy was a homemaker and secretary, with her last job being a secretary and later a volunteer for the Senior Friendship Center in Sarasota. She served as President of the Bee Ridge Jr. Women's Club and loved to bowl. Dorothy and Charles moved to Canton in 1997 after retiring and became members of Plains United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Joe W. Hobbs and wife, Laurie, of Canton and Ronald L. Hobbs and wife, Dianna, of Greensboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Bonnie E. Hobbs, of Naples, Florida; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Plains United Methodist Church with the Reverend Zach Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
