Dorothy Mcpherson

Maggie Valley - Dorothy "Dot" Hughes McPherson, age 83, of Maggie Valley, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 after an extended illness with her loving daughter by her side. A native of Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late James Luther "Tobe" Hughes and Maggie Duncan Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd McPherson; four sisters, Rosa Larrimore, Ocia Ward, Josephine Nobles, Hazel Lovett; and three brothers, Fred and Ted Nealey and Paul Hughes. Dot retired from Celanese Americas Corporation and was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church in Charlotte and a member of Weddington United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Broome and husband, Greg, of Maggie Valley; one sister, Ruby Watts and husband, Banks, of Whiteville, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Loleta McPherson of Chadbourn, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews, North Carolina 28105. Joseph Nobles will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Strickland, Brent Watts, Keith Ward, J.R. and Ervin McPherson, and Cofield Hilburn. A visitation will follow at Victorian Crow's Nest, 1710 W. Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28117. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MedWest Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or Mission Children's Hospital, 509 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801 or the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, 716 Mt. Airyshire Blvd. Suite 100, Columbus, OH 43235.
