Dorothy Morris

Canton – Dorothy Jane Leatherwood “Dot” Morris, 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late H. D. and Willie Medford Leatherwood.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill Morris, who died in 2009; a brother, Jerry Leatherwood; and a sister, Betty Haynes.  Dot was a graduate of Clyde High School and a member of First United Methodist Church of Canton.  She was a receptionist for Dr. Carey Wells and later for Dr. Albert Cline.

She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Shipman and Janice Plemmons of Canton; a son, James “Jimmy” Morris and his wife, Lisa, of Bethel; eight grandchildren, Kristen Rhinehart, Veronica Puls, Andy Plemmons, Leah Stephenson, Savannah Pope, Luke Worley, Daniel Worley and Levi Morris; and four great-grandchildren, Dakota Scott, Skyler McMillion, Bethany Barton and Nicholas Barton.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road.  The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
