Dorothy Stringfield

Waynesville, Dorothy Richeson "Dot" Stringfield, age 85, of 645 Brown Avenue, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Haywood County, where she lived most of her life and was the daughter of the late L.M. "Rich" and Ethel Evans Richeson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Jack Richeson. Mrs. Stringfield was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School and attended Peace College for two years. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville where she was an Adult Sunday school teacher, former Lay Leader, past president of United Methodist Women and served on numerous other committees within the church. Dot was past president of the Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary. She was also an avid reader. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. James K. Stringfield, Sr.; three sons, James K. Stringfield, PhD and his wife, Donna, of Salisbury, NC, Dr. John W. Stringfield, and his wife, Dr. Judy S. Stringfield, of Waynesville and Daniel L. Stringfield, and his companion, Bernard Horan, of San Diego, CA., six grandchildren, Sarah and Laura Stringfield and Sam, Anna, Jake, and Katy Stringfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells and Reverend Kathleen M. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
