Douglas Bowen

Waynesville, Douglas Farrell "Doug" Bowen, age 82, of Shelton Street, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at MedWest Haywood. A native of Haywood County, he had previously lived in Newport News, Virginia, where he worked as a welder in the shipyard. He was the son of the late Lon and Ruth Winchester Bowen and was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha F. Bowen, who died in 2010. He was a retired welder from the Dayco Corporation and was a member of Hazelwood Presbyterian Church since 1939. Doug was an avid trout fisherman and enjoyed camping with his family and friends from Myrtle Beach to Indian Creek. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Bowen, of Waynesville; one son, Doug Bowen, Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Auburn Hills, Michigan; one sister, Hilda Scheetz, of Florida; one brother, Benny Bowen, of Clyde; three grandchildren, Mark Grasty and Paul and Andrew Bowen; and two great-grandchildren, Patra Grasty and Louis Constante. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Patrick Womack and Reverend Heath Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Hazelwood Presbyterian Church, P.O.
