Douglas Maynard

Douglas Lee "Doug" Maynard, age 65, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Sciota County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Pearlon Lee Maynard. He was employed at Haywood Community College as an instructor for 30 years where he served as general studies department chair and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canton. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Patty Harris Maynard; mother and step-father, Emily Maynard Smathers and Jack Smathers; one son, Kenneth Lee Maynard and his wife, Chris, of Cartersville, GA; one half-brother, Kenneth Maynard and his wife, Penny, of Hickory; two grandchildren, Molly and Carson Maynard. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 28, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Guy Smith and the Reverend Dustin James officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence of 26 Poplar Street, home of Emily and Jack Smathers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood Community College Foundation, Inc., 185 Freelander Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
