Douglas Oliver

April 24, 1946 — November 6, 2015

Bethel Community - Douglas Arthur Oliver, age 69, of Cruso Road, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James and Blanche Pressley Oliver. He was a US Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era and was employed at American Enka for 33 years. Douglas was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and loved singing in the choir. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Douglas is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Fisher Oliver; a brother, J.D. Oliver and his wife, Linda, of the Cruso community; a niece; and one great niece and nephew. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Jack Holland and Reverend Perry Brindley officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Wright, Keith Pannell, Carl Turner, Harold Shipman, Steve Thompson, Cody Mashburn, David Dills and Dale Singleton. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of NC, 4819 Park Road, Suite C, Charlotte, NC 28209 or the Lottie Moon Foundation, c/o Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 261 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC 28716.
