Douglas Leon Seay, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Charles George VA Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William Lonzo Seay, Jr. and Phoebe Bailey Seay. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Candy Seay. He was a retired diesel mechanic with ABF Freight Systems and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a highly decorated United States Marine veteran serving in Vietnam. Doug never met a stranger and was loved by everyone. He enjoyed traveling, especially out west with his wife and also loved his three dogs dearly. Doug was very supportive and active in the North Carolina VFW working his way up in the organization to North Carolina VFW State Commander in 2010 – 2011. He is survived by his wife of 27 ½ years, Barbara Hambly Seay; a son, Jeffrey B. Seay of Hendersonville; a step-son, Paul Wright of Fairview; a step-daughter, Karin Jones and her husband, Bob, of Fairview; two sisters, Reta Miller and her husband, Dean, and Carolyn Cannon, all of Waynesville; a brother, Gene Seay and his wife, Barbara, of Marshville, NC; a grandson, Cody Seay; a step-granddaughter, Emily Wingo; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow at Fincher's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
