Doyle Pegram King, age 85, of the Beaverdam community, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Silver Bluff Rehabilitation Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late D. V. and Artie Parham King. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Elbert King; and a sister, Jean Stamey. He was United States Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict and in Germany. He retired from Champion International with 39 years of service and was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bobbie Best King; two daughters and their husbands, Ginger and Ben Moody of Waynesville and Debbie and David Prince of Almond; a brother, James King and his wife, Zena, of Raleigh; three grandchildren and their spouses Alan and Jalinda Wright, Tommy, Jr. and Haven Reece, and Haley and Matt Dickerson; three great-grandchildren, Emeri and Maddox Wright and Emma Reece; and three step-great-grandchildren, Brianna, Isaiah, and Savannah Dickerson. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Reverend Eugene Worley officiating. Burial will follow in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 43 Sunny Acres Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
