Lake Junaluska, Glen Clyburn Arrants, age 81, of 45 Purcell Drive, died on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Smoky Mountain Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. A native of Salisbury, NC, he was the son of the late Hartwell and Mary B. Graham Arrants. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. He received a Bachelors Degree from Catawba College, Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina, and his Doctorate in Education from Duke University. Glen retired from the NC State Department of Public Instruction in 1988 and continued as a marriage and family counselor until 1998. He also served two terms on the Board of Directors of the State Employees Credit Union and Director of Senior Adults of Haywood County. He was an ordained deacon in his church and particularly loved his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Snider Arrants; two daughters, Rebecca Lehman and her husband, Dudley, of Arden, NC and Cathy McCracken and her husband, Bill, of Clyde; a brother, Grady Arrants, of Salisbury, NC; two grandsons, Luke McCracken and his wife, Mary Curtis, of Waynesville and Mark McCracken and his wife, Margaret, of Asheville; and one great granddaughter, Lenna Kate McCracken. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009 in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. Burial will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services in the chapel of the church.
