February 12, 1925 — April 17, 2004

Waynesville-Dr. Warren Hugh Kitts, age 79, of Brown Avenue, died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Grainger County, Tennessee and was the son of the late Virgil and Ada Nell Beeler Kitts. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Payne.

He graduated from Knoxville High School. He attended Wake Forest University and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Tennessee. He was on staff for two years at the Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh and began his dental practice in Hazelwood, retiring in 1985 after 30 years. He was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII with the submarine service. He was a member of the Hazelwood Baptist Church, was a Sunday School teacher, and deacon. He was a member of the Hazelwood Lions Club, and was an avid gardener.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Disney Kitts; two daughters, Iva Nell Rhea and her husband, David of Houston, TX and Myra Lou Ross and her husband, Jack of Clyde; two sons, Warren Hugh Kitts, Jr. and his wife, Robin of Richmond, VA, and Kenneth Dale Kitts and his wife, Dena of Latta, SC; two brothers, Gordon Kitts of Knoxville, and Kenneth Kitts of Belmont, NC; and seven grandchildren, Kit and Kallie Rhea, Jake and Tyler Ross, and Kati, Kameryn, and Christopher Kitts.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2004 at the Hazelwood Baptist Church. The Reverend Don Letzring and Reverend Larry Reeves will officiate. The burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004 at Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services of Waynesville, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.

The pallbearers will be Jack, Jake, and Tyler Ross, Christopher Kitts, A. J. Plemmons, J. R. Caldwell, Chuck Reece, and Tim McCall. The deacons of Hazelwood Baptist Church and the Senior Men's Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hazelwood Baptist Church, 265 Hazelwood Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786.
