J. C. "Dusty" Roberts, age 89, died on Friday, August 6, 2010, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late N. Jay and Cora DeWeese Roberts. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry William Roberts; four sisters; and three brothers. He retired from Champion International and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canton. Dusty was one of the founders of Arc of Haywood County, a long-standing member of the VFW, and was known for his ambrosia cantaloupes. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in the Pacific during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred S. Roberts; three daughters, Madeleine Bennett, Diane Brenner (Ralph), and Linda Carol Roberts (James K. Logue); a brother, Joseph Howard Roberts (Millie); a grandson, Russ Brenner (Lisa); a granddaughter, Dorinda Bennett (Keith Haynes); and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Dustin James officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
