Candler, Dutch A. Pinkerton, age 87, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home in Candler. He was a native of Buncombe County and was the son of the late Robert and Sarah Parker Pinkerton. He was also preceded in death by one son Michael Keith Pinkerton and six siblings. He retired from American Enka in 1988 with 40 years of service. He was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. Dutch enjoyed blackberry picking, gardening, wood working and telling stories to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Letha Pinkerton, one son, Ricky Pinkerton of Candler; two daughters, Sherry Young and her husband Ernest of Candler; Donna Dixon and her husband Sam of Memphis, TN; one daughter-in-law Susan Pinkerton of Statesville, NC; two sisters, 3 grandchildren, Adam Pinkerton, Dawn Tow and her husband Jimmy, Brad Wood and his wife Melanie and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Pole Creek Baptist Church. Reverend Dennis Thurman will officiate. Burial will follow at Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Pole Creek Baptist Church General Fund, 95 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
