D.V. Henson

D. V. "Butch" Henson, age 67, of Beaverdam Heights, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Earl and Dot Nations Henson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; Virginia Blythe and Violet Snyder; two brothers, Vennoy and Vernon Henson; and two nephews, Chip and Tracy Henson. Butch was a 1962 graduate of Canton High School. He retired in 2006 from Blue Ridge Paper with 40 years of service in the maintenance department. Butch loved spending time with his family, collecting and restoring antique tools, car shows, NASCAR, and surveying with his son and grandsons. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Robinson Henson; one son and his wife, Bret and Tabatha Henson; one daughter and her husband, Kim and Eric Ashe; five grandchildren, Brittany, Spencer and Seth Henson, and Savanna and Jesse Ashe; one great-grandson, Benson Ashe Metcalf; two brothers, Vanise and his wife, Mary Lou, and Verlyn Henson; a sister-in-law, Barbara Henson; several nieces and nephews; and his aunt Opal Henson of Talbot, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Chris Willett and Reverend Martin Worley officiating. Entombment will follow at The Horizon at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Jesse Ashe, Spencer and Seth Henson, Josh Robinson, Charlie McDowell, and Mitchell Metcalf. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at Barbara and Butch's residence.
