Dwight Nelson

"Loving Husband, Father, & Grandfather" Waynesville, Dwight Nelson, age 68, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a son of the late Edward "Bud" and Mary Parton Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Nelson and a daughter, Leslie Nelson. Dwight was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church which he loved dearly. He was an avid fisherman, camper, and enjoyed Tuscola football. Dwight loved spending time with his family but especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ferguson; two daughters, Tracy Nelson (Julius Messer) of Waynesville and Tonya McKinney (Allen) of Clyde; one son, Ty Ferguson (Tootsie) of Maggie Valley; two sisters, Sue Nelson of Tallahassee, Alabama, and Nancy Richardson (Ed) of Maggie Valley; one brother Edward Nelson, Jr. (Nancy) of Waynesville; six grandchildren, Megan, Jesse, Jacob, Thea, Johnathan, and Hunter; and one great-grandchild, Aurora. A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Dellwood Baptist Church with the Reverend Bobby Rogers and Reverend Lefaine Deaver officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dellwood Baptist Church Youth Building, 115 Hall Drive, Waynesville, NC 28785.
