EARL GREENE

Waynesville-Earl Greene, age 76, of Shelton Cove Road, died Tuesday, December 24, 2002 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

He was a native of Swain County and lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Ellis M. and Mary Bell Messer Greene. He was preceded in death by a son, Benny Greene, who died in Vietnam in 1970; a brother, Fred Greene; and four sisters, Martha Farley, Nancy Bell Reynolds, Eva McClure, and Thelma Phillips. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired in 1982 from Champion Paper, Inc. with 36 years of employment.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Rose Greene; one daughter, Brenda Greene Bower and her husband, Charles, of Fletcher, NC; one son, Ernest Harold Greene, and his wife, Kathryn Otwell Greene, of Washington, DC; two sisters, Pearl Riggins, of Waynesville and Ruby Thomas of Clyde; four grandchildren, Chris and Bria Bower, and Benjamin and Tiffany Greene.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Nick Honerkamp officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Raymond Martin, Jack Nichols, Zeb and LaVern Phillips, Bud Liner, Gary Dills, Doug Greene, and Ben Farley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to New Covenant Church, 767 Lee Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
