Earl Messer

June 17, 1919 — April 14, 2012

Clyde, Earl Monroe Messer, age 92, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Theodore E. and Sallie King Messer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Noback, Geneva Ledford and Dorothy Ledford and one brother, Orville Messer. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Smith, of Waynesville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Putnam officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
