Earl Mills

Wilburn Earl "Doc" Mills, age 80, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John Millard and Burlie Medford Mills. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Almarie Campbell. He retired from American Enka Corp. in 1996 with 39 years of service. Earl enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He will especially be remembered for his great sense of humor and his delicious homemade fresh apple cakes and peach tortes. Most of all, he had a special love for his family who will cherish his legacy. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Carver Mills; a daughter, Earlene M. Moore and her husband, Kevin, of Canton; two sisters, Betty Jenkins and Helen Mills both of Waynesville; three brothers, Ralph Mills and his wife, Barbara, Ray Mills and his wife, Lois, all of Waynesville, and Lowell Mills and his wife, Elaine, of South Carolina; a brother-in-law, Don Campbell of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Steven Moore and his wife, Amber, Whitney Lackovic and her husband, Greg, and Lindsay Hatherlee and her husband, Justin; two great-grandchildren, Jack Lackovic and Ian Hatherlee; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend J. Zachery Christy officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
