Canton, Edward Weston Bell, age 88, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Aston Park Health Care Center in Asheville. Ed was a native of Flint, Michigan; he was the son of the late Edward and Marie Kerr Bell. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Bell Driver and a brother, Robert Calvin. He was a United States WWII Marine Veteran having served in the South Pacific and was present at the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. Ed retired with 40 years' service from Champion International as Pay Master. He was a member of the Pigeon River Masonic Lodge # 386 AF &AM, and was also a Scottish and York Rite Mason. Ed served on the Haywood regional Medical Board of Directors, Beaverdam Community Cemetery Board, Citizens for Bon-A-Venture Board of Directors and Champion Credit Union Board of Directors. He served in many offices at Beaverdam Methodist Church where he was a member. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Robinson Bell; a daughter, Edwina Ramal and her husband, Dr. Bill Ramal, of Canton; a son, Joe Bell and his wife, Merceidth, of Clyde; a nephew, Dave Driver; a niece, Reverend Jane Jenkins; two grandchildren, Wes Bell and Lindsey Robinson and one great-grandchild, Collin Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Beaverdam United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Cranfield and Reverend Richard Gould officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
