Ed Smith

Edward "Ed" Smith, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at MedWest – Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John Garland and Lora Haney Smith. He was also preceded in death by five brothers; three sisters; and a grandson-in-law, Rusty Trull, who died in 2007. He was owner and operator of Smith's Garage and later Smith's Used Cars. He served two terms as alderman for the Town of Clyde. Ed loved golfing, fishing, and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sue Case Smith; a son, Dane Smith and his wife, Linda, of Clyde; a sister, Ruth Clark of Michigan; two grandchildren, Tracy Smith and his wife, Kim, of Edenton, North Carolina and Dana Trull of Waynesville; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Tracy Smith and Reverend Tim Pullin officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Dane and Linda Smith, on Hideaway Hills (behind Midway Tire). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MedWest-Haywood Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
